Who We Are

Brandon Baptist Church has existed for over 150 years. OurĀ purpose is to glorify the true God through worship and witness of Jesus Christ in the Forest Heath District of Suffolk. We are a group of ordinary people, drawn from various walks of life, and of different ages and cultures. What unites us is our love for God, and our desire to serve Him. Therefore, we aim to meet together regularly to worship God, to be strengthened in our Christian faith and to share friendship and fellowship with each other.

Brandon Baptist Church is in Brandon’s High Street, which leads to the river and railway crossing. Over the railway, the road forks. The left hand goes to Kings Lynn (B1106), the right hand road goes to Swaffham (A1065).

Our church dates back to 1854. Behind the church is a school room used for meetings other than for worship. Beyond the school room is the car park, with room for about 14 cars and garden area. Also at the rear is the disabled access.

We believe in the primacy of the Bible as the guide for an individual and a fellowship. We practice believer’s Baptism and Church Members need to be baptised. We have mid-week meetings for bible study, a coffee morning and monthly women’s and men’s meetings.

We have Deacons by election who serve for two years, and members meet every two months for church business.

We aim to be a witnessing and welcoming fellowship.

What We Believe

The Bible is God’s Word, our authority in every area of life, giving direction, correction and instruction from the living God. In its original 66 writings it is without error.

The one true God exists in three persons

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ is the God-Man, sinless in His life, who died for our sins and rose physically from the dead. He is the focus of our worship, purpose of our praise and example of our daily walk.

The Holy Spirit who helps, encourages and teaches us is God, being the source of power and godliness in our daily walk.

Salvation is by God’s grace through faith, not by any of our works.

The Gospel

The Oxford Dictionary defines the word “Gospel” as glad tidings preached by Christ. A record of Christ’s life in the first four books of the New Testament. Thing one may safely believe.

1 Corinthians chapter 15 : verse 3 says “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures”.

Sins are the breaking of God’s Law and God’s Laws are set out in the 10 Commandments in the Old Testament Exodus 20 : 2-17. Jesus said “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind” and “You shall love your neighbour as yourself”. Matthew 22 : 37-39.

The Bible says “All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God”. Romans 3 : 23.
The Bible says “The wages of sin is death” Romans 6 : 23. “God is a just judge and God is angry with the wicked every day”. Psalm 7 : 11. The day will come when God shall judge everyone. Just as there is a Heaven, there is also a Hell, and we all deserve to spend eternity there.

Can we escape this fate?

There is one truth – we cannot save ourselves – that is impossible. God can save us through His Son Jesus Christ. “The wages of sin is death” but “The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Romans 6 : 23.

From the beginning of time when Adam and Eve first sinned and throughout the Old Testament it was foretold that Christ’s birth and death would happen.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He came to this earth 2000 years ago. Was born of a virgin, lived as a man, lived a perfect, sinless life, despite facing temptations, and was crucified unjustly. On the third day He rose from the dead, was seen by many and then ascended into Heaven to be at the right hand of God.

This was God’s ultimate plan from the beginning of time to save people from their sins.

What must we do to be saved? Turn away from your sins. Truly repent of them and trust in the Lord Jesus’ death and resurrection to save you. This requires us to come humbly to God in prayer, and seek his forgiveness.

Have no doubt that God is willing to save those who come to Him in such a spirit.
